Leica BLK ARC - a Guest From the Future!

29.10.2022
If you thought that the Leica Geosystems company would no longer surprise you - you were wrong!

Leica BLK ARC is a new modern laser scanning module based on carrier robots. It is designed to integrate with robotic carriers to provide mobile laser scanning with minimal human intervention. The operator plans the path that the robot will take to collect information while being at a distance from the object.

The first carrier robot was the Boston Dynamics Spot robot. The BLK Arc attaches easily to the Spot to co-create a fast, simple, secure and autonomous surveying workflow in dangerous and hard-to-reach locations. Combined, they provide fully autonomous scanning tasks for capturing 3D point clouds and panoramic images.

Advantages of Leica BLK ARC:

  • Performs missions using the user's remote control
  • Easily mounts to the Boston Dynamics Spot and integrates with its sensors
  • Improved workflow navigation for creating 3D digital models
  • Performs scanning both while standing still and while moving
  • Can autonomously repeat scanning missions to obtain up-to-date information on project progress and changes occurring in the measured terrain
  • Uses GrandSLAM technology to capture reality and navigate autonomously in complex environments

Features of Leica BLK ARC:

  • Controlling the sensors of the carrier robot
  • Creating and managing user profiles
  • Control of cameras, scanner and robot movement trajectory
  • Control the scanning process remotely
